Today, the team that led the historic protest against Sterlite Industries, met President of Makkal Needhi Maiam, Nammavar Kamal Haasan, at the party.
Headquarters, to thank him for his continued support over the years.
Following the momentous judgement of the Hon’ble Supreme Court to permanently shut down Sterlite Industries,

expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Nammavar Kamal Haasan for visiting the protest site at Thoothukudi and for extending his support for the cause.
On April 1, 2018, Nammavar Kamal Haasan expressed his wholehearted support and stood along with the protestors at Thoothukudi protest site.
Further, on May 23, 2018, the very next day of the unfortunate incident,
Nammavar Kamal Haasan rushed to the hospital to check on the victims receiving treatment for their injuries, and visited the homes of the deceased and offered his condolences to the grieving family members.
Later at the press meet held on the same day, Nammavar Kamal Haasan
strongly condemned the then government, for the tragedy which claimed innocent lives.
