Incidents of violence have surfaced in colleges now and then. While we haven't been able to stop them, horrific incidents surface from school children these days. A boy studying in a government school in Trichy has veen brutally killed by his fellow students.
A game of hurling stones at each other in Balasamuthiram Boys High School in Balasamuthiram , near Thottiyam. 3 boys involved in the incident were in a fight with a boy whose father, was working in construction. Unfortunately , the boy died and the police promptly arrested the boys. The boys were sent to juvenile vigilance centre.
A seemingly harmless game has the power to transform into an ugly fight, ending the life of a boy & resulting in prison sentence for the other 3 boys. We need to focus on the root cause of uncontrollable anger at such a young age.
Lately , we have been hearing of such gruesome incidents happening in some government schools , especially in Villupuram, Ramanathapuram and Cuddalore. A viral video showing boys and girls hurling chairs at each other in a classroom in Dharmapuri District was highly disturbing.
Such incidents raise questions on what kind of education and moral values are being imparted at schools in general . Educational institutions must be the centres of discipline. It is heartbreaking to note that differences, violence and enmity are seen in schools these days.
The responsibility of putting an end to such incidents lies not just with the government, but with every one of us who are educated. We cannot stay as mute witnesses to thoughts of violence and revenge being sown in the heads of the younger generation.
Every school management should take it upon themselves to curtail instigation of hatred and violence among students. High moral values mudt be instilled in the minds of the students. More focus on imparting moral education is needed at the moment. Parallelly, a constant watch must be kept on the students and that would ensure the safety of students in general.
